Krueger Retiring After 45 Years at First State Bank
First State Bank announced that longtime employee, Barb Krueger, is retiring on January 4 after more than 45 years with the bank. A lifelong resident of New London, Barb started working at First State Bank as a teller and bookkeeper after graduating from New London High School in 1978—the first of many positions she would hold at the bank.
Barb became a retail loan secretary in 1980 before transitioning to the human resources department in 1990 where she held the position of human resources administrator for 21 years. As the needs of the bank and customers continued to change, Barb moved to the business banking department in 2011 where she was the business banking assistant supervisor for four years. Barb became the executive assistant to the bank president in 2015, transitioning to part-time status earlier this year after announcing her plans for retirement.
Throughout her First State Bank career, Barb found the most satisfaction in helping customers.
“Barb has never been too busy to help our customers and truly got to know them in order to provide the best service possible,” commented longtime friend and coworker, Brenda Hansen. “With her friendly nature and knowledge, Barb really earned the trust of her customers and coworkers alike.”
Barb shared her time and talents with various community organizations during her tenure at the bank, including The New London Day Care Center, Salvation Army, and the Fehlberg Memorial Veterans Ride. She also volunteered for New London High School NEWCLASS Scholarship interviews and numerous community events each year.
“Barb has positively impacted our team, customers, and community during her remarkable career at First State Bank,” said First State Bank president & CEO, Matt Lemke. “We are truly grateful for Barb’s dedication and service and wish her well in this next chapter of her life.”
